We have been celebrating Matariki-The Māori New Year here at Central Kids Hazelmere Kindergarten all week by enjoying lovely fruit platters with the fruit our families have shared. Today it was time for our Matariki Feast. Linda took the three oldest children and a trolley to the Hazelmere Fish and Chip shop to get some hot chips to share.
At Hazelmere we have a book about a family who get up early for their special Matariki feast of kumara in tinfoil cooked in a bonfire by the beach as they watch the stars rise in the early morning sky. Using loose parts, Liz set up our own 'bonfire' and we imagined we were up early too.
We hope we are building Matariki Memories for our Tamariki and encouraging our Whānau to explore Matariki too.
