Our New Playground

This was the big day that we had all been waiting for, the opening of the newly refurbished section of our playground. The children have watched in anticipation behind a safety fence over the last two or three weeks as the workers brought in a crane, digger, concrete mixer, chain saw and a host of other equipment as they constructed a lovely new nature area for the tamariki to enjoy.

Local Kaumātua attended the opening. Mrs Broadhurst was very much part of a team of committed locals who fundraised to open the Kindergarten in 1970 and Matua Rawiri lived next door at the time. Matua Rawiri did a blessing/karakia before the opening ribbon was cut by Chardaye and Brite-eyes assisted by their Auntie Jezz.

There are lots of different textures and surfaces for everyone to explore. The area also includes a large blackboard and mirrored area for face painting, a bug hotel and lots of space for growing our own kai.  Thanks to Charm’s mum Talia who arrived with a large variety of plants to get us started.
