Excursion to Tairua Residential Care Home

Last Friday we were invited to the Tairua Residential Care home for their Mid-Winter Christmas Lunch. The entrance was decorated with a Christmas scene, complete with Santa Clause, a tree and ‘snow’.

We were greeted by the staff and introduced to the residents in the lounge, then entertained by Paul with his guitar and Faye, another resident who sang for us. We joined in, singing, dancing and playing musical instruments to Christmas songs.

The highlight for the children was being showered with balloons and shredded paper which cascaded from the ceiling above. The residents watched in amazement, smiles on their faces.

At lunch we joined the residents at their tables and enjoyed a delicious meal of glazed ham, potatoes and vegetables, followed by mini pavlovas and cream for dessert. What a wonderful experience for us all.

Many thanks to parents/whānau who helped make this so successful and a huge thank you to Nina and all the staff at the residential care home.

We intend taking small groups of children to the care home on a regular basis and invite the residents to the kindergarten.
