Wow what an awesome night we had last night at our Matariki Celebration.
The vibe was calm and happy and it allowed us all to have a fun and relaxed evening enjoying the yummy soup that had been prepared by the children, Tracey and Kevin and the range of fresh breads on offer. The centre was so beautiful with mood lighting on the deck as well as sparkly lights and stars inside. The children were able to show the families artwork they had made and check out their portfolios. Our whānau evenings are always such a wonderful opportunity for the staff and parents to catch up and chat in a relaxed and unhurried way. Towards the end of the evening Jo and a small, yet mighty group of children, sang us a lovely waiata – Tūtira Mai Ngā Iwi… it was lovely to see the pride in the children’s faces as they sang!
Lastly, we gave out Duffy books to the children – if your child was not here on the night please ask a teacher for your child’ books, as they are ready to be collected. As not everyone knows about the Duffy Book programme there is some information in a following post that explains the programme. You can also visit their website http://www.booksinhomes.org.nz/Page/AboutUs/OurHistory.aspx
Thank you to everyone who helped to make the evening such a success – the parents who donated vegetables for our kai, the team of staff who worked hard to set the scene and the children and whānau who joined us on this winter’s evening to celebrate this special time of the year.
