We wrote a piece for our Web/Facebook page earlier this year explaining the German meaning of kindergarten being a ‘Garden for Children’. And what is a beautiful space such as a garden, without friends to share it with!
One of the most important benefits of children attending kindergarten is it gives pre-schoolers the opportunity to develop their social skills. In other words, attending kindergarten provides children with the time and space with support from kaiako/teachers, to learn how to co-operate with others, negotiate, take turns, listen, engage in conversation, resolve conflict, manage emotions, independence, participation in teamwork, compromise, patience, make choices, learn empathy, and most importantly of all…to play, have fun, and, to make FRIENDS!
If a photo says a thousand words, then these wonderful photos of happy, healthy children with their friends here at Kindergarten, tells a very special story. A story of the importance of allowing our children the freedom, space and time to play and make friends in an aroha filled early learning environment with supportive, dedicated kaiako, such as here at Mercury Bay Kindergarten. So come on down and visit us, we would love to meet you and your child!
