Today we had a special guest come to read her very own book to us “The Little Ghost Who Lost Her Boo”. Her name is Elaine Bickell and she is a New Zealand children’s author. Elaine then read “Mrs. Wishy Washy’s Farm a story by Joy Cowley whom she had won her award from.
The children loved listening to her read and asked lots of questions about writing a book. She stayed on for a little while after she had finished and read some of our stories to the children. Tamariki love to be read to and it is so important for early literacy development.
Children learn that stories and ideas can be written down and read by others and they get to hear and experience rich language that they use to build their own vocabulary. This is the stepping stone to reading writing and story telling of their own and we were honoured to have Elaine here at our Kindergarten. Tēnā rawa atu koe, Thank you very much.
