Recently our children have been role playing Policemen and Policewomen. They have been producing ‘tickets’ which were given out to almost everyone and there has been a lot of talk about what Police do!
We have noticed some of their ideas revolve around sending people to jail and not much talk about how the Police can help us when we need them. This prompted a phone call to the local Police to arrange a social visit.
On the 25th February, we were visited by Marie, the Community School Officer from the Whakatāne Police Station. She was an immediate attraction for many of our tamariki and they gathered around her as she spent time in different areas. There was a lot of talking and laughter and the tamariki seemed to have a wonderful time, especially when we were given a real Police car toy to play with!
Maybe next time, we can visit the Fire Station too!
