Its Dalton’s sunflower competition time again. This competition runs biennially and the children were excited to participate. In September we received our project kit and started to plant our seeds.
The Dalton’s sunflowers in kindergartens Project is a much loved initiative designed to empower a generation of gardeners and at the heart of the project lies Dalton’s goal to spark children’s interest and grow a passion for gardening.
At Kihikihi Kindergarten the project provides a platform for children to learn gardening skills and an understanding of plants by sowing the seed, learning about germination, caring for seedlings, daily care of their plant and much more. It promotes the value of family and community which is embedded in Te Whāriki, the early childhood curriculum.
“Mā te ako, mā te tipu, ka neke whakamua tātou.
As we learn and as we grow, we move forward together.”
