Central Kids Edgecumbe Kindergarten community would like to say a huge thank you for the generous grant that the Lions Foundation provided which enabled us to replace a worn out shade sail over the swing area.
This is an area of our outdoor environment that is loved by the children and provides many, many learning opportunities for them.
Learning to swing is often one of the first skills learnt by our tamariki. The sense of pride and achievement is huge for children and is one that is shared with their peers, teachers and families.
This is also a great area for learning the social skills of turn taking, helping others, supporting others to achieve their goal, nurturing younger or less capable children, developing confidence to push beyond current comfort zones and of course simply having fun and enjoying being with friends and teachers.
The swings are also a favourite space for our children with higher needs where they can retreat for some calming down time and to spend quality one on one time with a teacher.
Our old shade sail had worn out and was no longer offering any sun protection through the hot summer months and this coming summer we would have had to limit the time children could spend here. Your generous grant has meant, that we have been able to order a new shade sail that will be ready for the summer months.
Whilst we have been fundraising towards replacement it would have taken many more months to reach our goal.
Thank you again on behalf of all the children, teachers and wider kindergarten family.
