We talked about providing ‘Hot lunch Fridays’ once a month after having our first hot roast lunch, but it wasn’t ever going to be often enough! Now every Friday is a hot lunch Friday and we have an abundance of suggestions and parents jumping on board to tautoko – support this initiative.
Hot lunch Fridays have become such a popular part of our programme and we really want to thank all of our amazing people who have contributed to this new kindergarten ritual each Friday. We have had many parents making pizza dough for the tamariki, and sharing ideas and special recipes, and others who have made such an effort to ensure cultural responsiveness so all tamariki, regardless of cultural beliefs and values are able to participate.
We have even had a tray of 36 eggs delivered from kind members of the community, and made egg sandwiches and egg and kūmara pie for tamariki. You know who you are, thanks so much!
When we come together at the tepu – table we say our kindergarten karakia, which includes saying thank you for the food, for our friends and family. Our bi-cultural traditions, beliefs and values are embedded in our kaupapa – programme and the tamariki are really engaging in saying karakia with much gusto and passion.
This week is Super Smoothie Friday, an alternative to a hot meal, but we know it’ll be a popular one with the tamariki, and the teachers. Another great idea from one of our whānau. Rawe – awesome!
