Kaitiakitanga at Central Kids Ōpotiki

Kaitiakitanga at Central Kids Ōpotiki

This month at Ōpotiki Kindergarten our tamariki have been utilizing all of The Little Garden seedlings that we have collected from shopping at New World.  Our tamariki are quite skilled gardeners who are always out in the garden helping prepare our gardens each year, so they have enjoyed planting these seedlings.  We have quite a range of seedlings and through this experience our children are able to learn about all the different names of the plants as well as notice which seedlings grow the quickest.

This learning links with one of our centre philosophy values of Kaitiakitanga.  Our team value our built environment and aim to do our bit by recycling, gardening and up-cycling our resources.  We care about our local environment and encourage our tamariki to develop a critical awareness of their natural world.
