Manaakitanga
At Selwyn Kindergarten atawhai (kindness) is important to us. Father’s Day was an opportunity for our tamariki to create pictures for the special tāne in their lives. Before giving them away we encouraged the pictures and special notes to be put into a box and we drew out two names. Marino and Finley (pictured) got to take home a basket of goodies each for their special tāne.
We are shown kindness by many of our whānau on a daily basis but we do want to give a special mention to Liam’s Granny. Every kindergarten child and teacher received a mask sown by Granny. Although we don’t wear masks at kindergarten we know that our tamariki are seeing people in the community wearing masks. To have one to practice wearing at home will be a really meaningful and valuable experience. This is Demi-Lee showing the correct way to wear a mask – over the nose and mouth with hands away from her face. Great modelling Demi-lee.
This week staff, whānau and tamariki are all being extra conscious of being kind to each other and making each day just that little bit more special.
Come on in to Selwyn and enjoy the experience of atawhai at its best J
