Matariki – a time to reflect, to celebrate and to plan.
Matariki was recently celebrated at Central Kids Whaihanga Early Learning Centre with whānau joining us for kai kākari and spending time with their tamariki.
We shared some of the delicious KidsCan kai that tamariki helped prepare, before lighting the brazier in preparation for roasting marshmallows. The rain didn’t dampen our enthusiasm as we put on raincoats and roasted marshmallows. The heat from the fire soon warming our bodies was well as roasting our marshmallow to perfection!
Tamariki had also been bush planting some seedlings in our māra kai.
Matariki, the Māori New Year, is a time to reflect. Reflect on the year past. A time to celebrate, being grateful for being together today. And to plan, looking forward for the year ahead.
