At Central Kids Rāwhiti in Matamata, we have been slowly transforming our inside environment. We have been looking at how children learn best and provide a child focused learning programme.
We have created an environment where children lead their own learning and we support them in determining what they need in the way of resources to support this learning, so not all resources are available. When provided with fewer resources in the environment, we have noticed the children engage for longer periods of play with a single resource, allowing better focus to explore their play more creatively.
The kindergarten also has another couple of projects underway this term. One is our ‘Whanaungatanga wall’. We have designed a family tree, to journey our families/whānau and ancestors. This is in the very beginning stages and we are very excited to see this grow as our children and whānau contribute.
Having these projects allows us to revisit what’s on our walls. Our wall displays here at Central Kids Rāwhiti are relevant to our philosophy, our children, their whānau and our community.
