Central Kids David Henry and kaiako, Cara would like to thank the DV Bryant Trust for the generous grant of $1,000.00, which has enabled her to continue studies in Play Therapy and complete stage 2b.
Play Therapy has specific skills and strategies to help build relationships with tamariki who are experiencing difficulties in their lives or have gone through trauma.
Children are able to express themselves in a trusting responsive environment, this supports them to self-regulate and work through traumatic experiences through play.
Specific skills in stage 2b included responding and working with children who have selected mutism, how children go through the therapeutic process and what behaviours they may show at each stage, and communicating with parents through an attachment interview. These will specifically help children and whānau in kindergarten and other teachers and centres in our community.
