Respecting ourselves and others and the environment is a key part of our philosophy and beyond our kindergarten life.
At our kindergarten, children’s ideas and thoughts are respected and taken seriously, and teachers pay careful attention to what children say and think. We believe in order to teach respect, we must model it!!
We do this by modelling respect for our whānau and manuhiri (visitors), through demonstrating manaakitanga. We also teach tamariki through our interactions between colleagues.
We teach our tamariki to respect themselves by talking to the children and helping them to take care of their bodies in a range of ways, from hand washing to being physically active, to eating healthy kai.
Our tamariki learn to respect their environment by engaging in a range of different mahi. We teach them about the Atua and Kaitiakitanga of Papatūānuku. We respect our insects and all animals, and teach tamariki to have empathy for even the tiniest of creatures.
And finally, we teach tamariki that we respect them by presenting them with a beautiful space to play, learn and grow in.
