There was much excitement at Central Kids Whaihanga when Ruben the Road Safety Bear and his friend Gary came to visit.

Obviously a very popular visitor judging by the school children over the fence calling out “Hi Ruben” to him, it was the first time that we had seen Ruben at our centre.  It won’t be the last though, as the tamariki were captivated by Ruben and Gary as they spent some time sharing some foundation road safety messages.

Along with the key safety messages, we also learned about traffic lights and pedestrian crossings, and even got to practice safe road crossing on Ruben’s ‘zebra’ crossing mat.

Ruben’s visit was a fun way to learn about road safety, as well as develop and strengthen relationships with community organisations such as our local regional council.
