On Monday, 9th May, Central Kids Homedale Kindergarten had an exciting visit from Helen and Ruru, the Road Safety Owl. Helen talked to us all bout the importance of wearing our seatbelts in the car and being safe when crossing the road, by holding the hand of an adult, watching, being careful and walking, not running across the road!
Then, there was a surprise guest…. Ruru! Owls are seen as kaitiaki or protectors/guardians, so are therefore a very appropriate symbol for keeping safe on and around the roads. Ruru waved to all the tamariki and kaiako, by gently flapping her beautiful wings up and down. Many of the tamariki also had cuddles and ‘high fives’ with Ruru.
Before our manuhiri left our kindergarten, they gifted us a lovely new sign which says “Belts on Everyone”, with a picture of three owls sitting in a car wearing their seatbelts.
Tau kē o ako tamariki ma! Awesome learning everyone!
