Tēnā koutou, my name is Shelley Reid and I am excited to be joining the team at Central Kids Te Kuiti.
My early years in Mangapēhi allowed me to feel the warmth of my Beever/Reid whānau and a strong sense of connectedness. My first love of nature and connection to the spirit of Papatūānuku began in that little sawmilling village, on my grandparent’s farm and roaming around Mt Pureora.
We moved to Te Kuiti when I was 9 where I attended Te Kuiti Primary and High School. My great-grandparents and grandmother also lived in Te Kuiti, my parents still live in the same house more than 50 years later. As a family we still love to enjoy the gifts of our local natural environment such as swimming in the Mangaokewa River.
Before moving back to Te Kuiti, I spent over 30 years involved in Steiner Education in parent and community led initiatives, day care and kindergarten teaching.
The value of play and the holistic approach to children’s learning inspire my teaching. Enabling children to explore and delight in the outdoor environment and natural world is one of my core values.
To be able to make a shared contribution to the lives and wellbeing of people and community is one of my aspirations.
