At Central Kids Whaihanga, Whaea Jelena had put out the bamboo teepee and found a large box of materials to go with it. These items were left for a short time and upon returning, she discovered a large group of our tamariki were hard at work.
It was amazing to see how their minds think and their ability to work together like a well-oiled machine when given the opportunity to explore on their own. This is a wonderful organic example of kotahitanga, working together as one for a unified goal, making a teepee.
There were lots of questions asking for support from each other. There were questions of wonder, “I wonder what this could be? I wonder what we are making? I wonder where this could go? When the building was complete, the tamariki were offered some cushions and a basket of pukapuka. Many of our tamariki then stayed in that teepee to read some stories together.
