This month at Central Kids Kindergarten Ōpotiki, our two pet chickens “Salt and Pepper” have finally started laying eggs. Our tamariki have been enjoying going out and collecting the daily eggs from our chickens. We have also been utilizing them at Kindergarten with some process cooking.
This week we used the eggs to make some delicious cupcakes for our afternoon tea. Some children choose to take their eggs home as well, where they have done some baking with their whanau and then bought the cupcakes in for us to all enjoy the next day. Little gestures like this has helped strengthen our whakawhanaungatanga within our centre, as well as teaching our tamariki about turn-taking and sharing with the eggs.
