Our whānau braved a rainy night early March to attend our whānau evening. We had asked our whānau for feedback as to whether they wanted this event held at the kindergarten where we could set up some activities, or at the park next door as we had done previous years. They majority chose to have the evening held at kindergarten, so we set the inside environment up with paints, playdough, magnets and other activities for our kindergarten tamariki and their siblings to enjoy.
All whānau brought a plate for shared kai, while we provided dessert. Our lovely lunch cover release teacher, Sue made the slices for the evening caramel, mint, brownie and ginger slice. We also supported our local bakery by purchasing a selection of doughnuts and custard slice. Needless to say, there was a nice spread for everyone to enjoy.
Before eating, the tamariki and kaiako performed a kaka pōwhiri to welcome everyone and sung our karakia. It was lovely to mingle and chat in a relaxed environment. We completed the evening with ice-cream and sprinkles. We had some lovely feedback about the evening from whānau who attended. We look forward to repeating this event next year.
