Today we practiced our yoga techniques with inspiration from the Matariki stars at Central Kids David Henry in Tokoroa.
The tamariki stretched their arms and legs out to make the shape of a whetu. They also used their bodies and hands to represent being the marama.
After practicing yoga, we talked about the different names of the Matariki stars. They chose which Matariki star they liked and we connected it with their whetu pose on the Matariki wall.
We have been utilising yoga to help us nuture our hauora, mauri, wairua and mana. This promotes slowing down, mindfulness, relaxation and strengthens our connection between our body and minds. Today’s Matariki yoga enabled us to enhance our knowledge and kōrero around different names of the whetu and their roles as kaitiaki.
