Ōwhata Kindergarten

A bi-cultural kindergarten that supports tamariki to learn through play.

Ōwhata Kindergarten provides opportunities for tamariki to engage in learning through planned and spontaneous play alongside their peers and kaiako.

Kaiako support tamariki, recognising their current interests, providing appropriate resources and learning opportunities based on the early childhood curriculum, Te Whāriki.

We acknowledge the bi-cultural partnerships of Te Tiriti o Waitangi. This is reflected through the use of te reo and tikanga Māori within our programme.

Whānau are valued and respected as the first carers of their tamariki and warm, reciprocal relationships help to provide strong, stable, foundations for learning, enabling tamariki to develop the skills that prepare them for school and life.

Nau mai haere mai, our door is always open, we welcome you to visit us any time.

The Ōwhata Kindergarten environment

Ōwhata Kindergarten is a well resourced kindergarten with a huge outdoor area, located in a quiet street in Ōwhata.

It really feels like a community

"We couldn’t be happier with our experience at Ōwhata Kindergarten. The teachers are warm, caring and truly passionate about early childhood education. Our child has grown so much - socially, emotionally and academically - since starting here. The kindergarten is bright, clean, and full of engaging activities that make learning fun. The play area is huge. Communication with parents is excellent, and it really feels like a community. We are so grateful to have found a place where our child feels safe, supported, and excited to go every day."
