The Kaupapa of Te Ara Mātauranga Kindergarten is to follow the lead of children and their interests. Teachers work alongside children allowing time for children to explore and consider their own ideas and theories.
The Habits of Mind framework in conjunction with Te Whāriki supports children’s growing dispositions as lifelong learners. Children are encouraged to solve problems and develop their skills in social and emotional competence while teachers work alongside offering encouragement and support with strategies and role modelling expectations.
The Kindergarten learning environment is purposefully arranged to allow children greater opportunities for uninterrupted work and play.
Teachers are committed to showing respect for our culture, Te Ao Māori and growing skills in this area for themselves and the learning community. There is a growing respect for environment and the Kindergarten is building on previous practice working alongside families and children alike.
